Pet Cat Grooming
What courses should I take in college, if when I grow up I want to open my own pet store?

I want to open a pet store really nice when they get older with cats and dogs, like, birds and fish, and with a place like pet grooming in the back … I am currently a junior in high school and instant messaging in Animal Sciences.

Animal Science is great if you want to know how to care for their animals. To open a shop then I suggest you take business classes. This will give you the business sense and knows how to run a pet shop, preparing business or anything else you want. Many businesses fail because the owners know their trade (a hairdresser, a chef, clothing design, etc), but do not have the balance of information such as overhead costs, market analysis, personnel matters, regulatory codes, etc. as the main business seems to be a best option if you want ownership.

Pet Cat Eye Care
In view of the pet food poisoning, we can put a lot of money on our pets?

There is a wonderful article on Yahoo, You can link to it here: And http://biz.yahoo.com/weekend/doglife_1.html raised the point that the law puts more emotional value on a family heirloom of what we put in our pets. According to the article, if your pet died, only receive the market value for the price of the animal. Which incidentally is seen only as property. A piece of property. My two cats were rescued, and I paid nothing for them. The value I have put in food and pet care, however, legal in the eyes, if they were poisoned in the scandal of pet food, I want to receive anything from those who killed my pets! I think all pet owners should begin to flood their legislators of requests to change this sad and cruel view of the value of the pet. What do YOU think? More importantly … What you?

I agree with you, appreciation, love, and I love my lab and for me is my son. I am a huge animal rights activist and a few months ago there was great petition campaign on this issue because of another matter. A family member beloved pet was "killed" by a neighbor. The owners wanted to sue as said he could only get the property value. The animals are viewed as property and emotional value can NOT be granted. What a bunch of BS to me requests for last year because I know there is no monetary amount that could be done for the love I have for my dog. We just need more people to take action.

Lost Pet Cats
How long would you look for a lost pet?

If you lost your dog or cat, how long would you continue looking for your pet? Until they are found? Forever? Or, 3 days? 4 days? 3 weeks? 3 months?

Also, let me know where you are from and if you have any pets- dogs or cats?
Thanks for all of the reply posts so far. I am thrilled that people would keep on looking – but… what if you didn’t have any luck after 2 weeks? 2 months? No sightings, no calls, nothing. Wouldn’t you get frustrated after months?

I used to work at an animal shelter. I have seen people find their lost pets after years of looking. Once a husky who had been missing for 7 years turned up at our shelter; another time a Scottish Terrier who had been stolen from his yard 5 years previously came in. Both were reunited with shocked but happy owners.
Cats also can be gone for years before returning, and they are known to hitch rides on planes etc. Fewer cats are reunited with their owners than dogs because people do not give them as much identification (tags, tatoos, microchips) as they do dogs. About 54% of lost dogs are identified and reunited with their owners, only about 4% of cats, at least at the shelter where I worked.
I’ve never seen a lost bird reunited with its owner, perhaps because the climate in Canada is too harsh for the tropical birds we tend to keep as pets. Also, pet birds are much more vulnerable to predators than wild ones.
As a child, I lived in a rural area and lost my cat . He never came back, but I kept looking for a year. Now that I am older, I do not let my cats go out unattended as I’ve seen all the terrible things that can happen to them. Also, they can put a sizeable dent in the songbird population as they are not native to North America.

Pet Cat Outdoor Enclosures
Has Anyone Else Raised and Trained a “Pet” Silver Fox From a Fur Farm?

A fur farm was closing, and all of their stock was for sale, a good friend of mine bought a young silver fox (black like a black cat with silvered hair tips) and raised her in the home. She walks on a leash with a cat harness and lounges on the couch and digs to China when in her outdoor enclosure. She’s thinking of adding a neutered male platinum fox as a companion. Has anyone else raised and trained ranched foxes (Vulpes vulpes) like this?

yes actually thats my favorite pastime. do you have any questions about it?

Pet Cat Jackets
Is it time to boycott China?

China has proven time and again that this country has no animal rights. They use cat and dog fur to trim jackets, skin the animals alive after beating them with clubs or stomping on them, and is now used poison, melamine, as a protein filler loved ones in our food. 17 animals have died …. and more than 4,000 animals, farm, have also passed. What does it take for this country to reform, make laws respecting the animals and show some humanity? I started my boycott. I will not buy anything made in China. The Olympic Games are coming up next year. Also I will boycott watching occur in China. This country and the lack of animal protection legislation, enfuriates me. What are your thoughts? Rockhuller114, I do not even live in the U.S.. Stop judging!

It's long past time.
